Shopping in and near Fishbourne
What the village offers and where to go for more
Fishbourne is a small village and has very limited retail of its own. There is no village shop in the traditional sense, and residents rely on Chichester for most of their shopping needs. This is one of the practical realities of village life in an area where the nearest city is close enough to make maintaining village retail uneconomic.
The Bull's Head pub is the most prominent commercial establishment in the village itself. For everyday groceries, bread, and household items, a short drive or train ride to Chichester provides access to supermarkets including Sainsbury's, Tesco, and Waitrose, as well as the independent shops on the city centre streets.
Chichester's shopping offer is good for a city of its size, with a mix of independent retailers and national chains in the compact city centre. The North Street area has the main chain stores, while the Pallants and East Street offer more independent and specialist shops. The covered Butter Market houses smaller retailers and crafts.
Online shopping and home delivery serve Fishbourne as they do most rural and semi-rural areas, with all major supermarkets offering delivery to the village. This has reduced the impact of not having a local shop, though it is not a complete substitute for the convenience of being able to walk to a corner shop.
For specialist shopping, Chichester offers bookshops, kitchen shops, clothing boutiques, and the kind of independent retail that a cathedral city attracts. The retail parks on the A27 bypass provide DIY stores, electrical retailers, and larger format shopping.
